An independent checker, not Turnitin

AI Humanizer Detector is not affiliated with Turnitin, LLC, and “Turnitin” is its trademark. We can’t access Turnitin or reproduce its score. What we can do is show you, before you submit, which parts of your writing look like AI to a detector, so you can fix them while it’s still your draft.

How to check your essay before Turnitin

  1. Paste the body of your essay. Leave out the title page, block quotes and bibliography. Turnitin focuses on long-form prose, and quotations you didn’t write only blur the result.
  2. Click Check my essay. You’ll get an AI percentage, a verdict and highlights on the sentences that read most like AI.
  3. Read the highlighted sentences. They usually share a pattern: generic claims, even rhythm, or stock transitions like “Furthermore” and “In conclusion.”
  4. Revise in your own voice. Add a specific example from your reading or class, state your own view plainly, and vary your sentence length.
  5. Check again. A second check shows whether your revisions changed how the essay reads.

Why honest essays get flagged

AI detectors respond to patterns, and some human writing shares them. Essays are especially exposed because school writing is often taught as a formula: a thesis in the last line of the introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion that restates the thesis. Writing that is careful, formal and evenly structured can look machine-made to a detector. Research has also found that detectors misclassify writing by non-native English speakers more often (see are AI detectors accurate?).

Grammar tools can play a part too. Heavy rewriting by an AI-powered editor or paraphraser can change how your text scores, as we explain in can AI detectors detect Grammarly or QuillBot?

Protect yourself from a false flag

  • Write in Google Docs or Word with version history turned on, so your drafting process is recorded.
  • Keep your outline, research notes and earlier drafts until the grade is final.
  • Follow your course’s AI policy, and disclose AI help where it’s required.
  • If you’re questioned, ask which passages were flagged and explain how you wrote them.

Used AI for parts of your work in a way your course allows? Our essay humanizer can make those parts read naturally in an academic tone, but it doesn’t change what your institution’s rules say about AI use.

Turnitin AI checker FAQ

Is this the official Turnitin AI checker?

No. AI Humanizer Detector is an independent AI detector and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Turnitin. We don't have access to Turnitin's systems, and your text is never sent to Turnitin. We use our own detection methods to show which parts of your essay read like AI before you submit it.

Can I check my paper with Turnitin's AI detector for free?

Usually not. Turnitin licenses its AI writing detection to schools and universities, and the AI report is designed for instructors. Students typically can't run their own Turnitin AI check. A free, independent AI checker like this one lets you review your own writing beforehand.

Will my score here match my Turnitin AI score?

Not necessarily. Every AI detector uses a different model and different thresholds, so the same essay can score differently on different tools. Use this check to find passages that read like AI and revise them in your own voice, not to predict an exact Turnitin percentage.

Does Turnitin detect ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini?

Turnitin's AI writing detection is built to flag text generated by large language models, which includes ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Turnitin has also said it looks for AI text that has been reworded by paraphrasing tools. Long, unedited AI passages are the most likely to be flagged.

Is my essay stored or added to a database when I use this checker?

No. Text you check here is analyzed and returned to your browser. It is not saved, not added to any repository and not shared with Turnitin or your school.

What AI percentage does Turnitin consider too high?

Turnitin doesn't set a pass or fail line. The AI score is an estimate of how much of the qualifying prose looks AI-generated, and Turnitin says it should not be the only basis for any decision. What happens next depends on your instructor and your institution's policy.

What should I do if my own essay is flagged as AI?

Look at the highlighted sentences and rewrite any that sound generic in your own words, with specific examples from your reading or class. Keep your outlines, notes and document version history, which show how you wrote the essay. If an instructor raises a concern, ask to see the flagged passages and walk them through your process.
